Located in the heart of downtown Halifax, the Citadel is easy to access and designed to make your experience smooth from arrival to departure. Take a look at the helpful information below to plan your visit.

  • The Halifax Citadel National Historic Site is open daily, May 7 to October 31, from 9 am to 5 pm.

    The grounds are accessible year-round, but interior rooms and services are closed in winter.

  • Located in downtown Halifax, the Citadel is easily accessible by foot, car or public transit.

    Main Entrance: 
    Enter the southwest doors into the x area. Taxis and other vehicles may drop off and pick up visitors here.  Parking is not permitted in loading areas.

  • On-site paid parking is available within the Citadel grounds, located in the West Ditch.

    • $9.50 per vehicle

    • Approximately 80 spaces available

    • Accessible parking available

    • Bus and RV parking accommodated

    Additional street parking and nearby parking options are also available throughout downtown Halifax.
